October 23, 2009Dolabella tops in triathlon Sprint Carlos Dolabella, 48, of Key Biscayne won the Sprint division of the Miami Nice Triathlon on Sunday around Miami Marine Stadium.
With temperatures in the 60s from the first cold front of the season, Dolabella led from start to finish, covering the half-mile swim, 12.5-mile bike and 3.1-mile run in 1 hour 5 minutes and 53 seconds.
``The race was very well-organized, and it was really nice to finish [my] season with a win,'' said Dolabella, who won the World's Fittest CEO race in August.
Elise Schillmoller, 33, of Miami was the women's winner in 1:13:14.
``This is my first triathlon season, and I won two races,'' said Schillmoller, who will represent Team USA at the AG Triathlon World Championship in September in Budapest, Hungary.
Monica Rossi-Montero, 40, of Miami was second in 1:15:14. Last weekend, Rossi-Montero was runner-up at the Publix Family Fitness Series Duathlon Championships in Winter Park. On Sunday, Schillmoller pulled away from her on the bike.
John Reback, 39, of Jupiter won the Olympic distance race. He completed the 1,500-meter swim, 24.8-mile bike and 6.2-mile run in 2:05:09. Reinaldo Oliveira, 31, from Rio de Janeiro, was second in 2:08:18. Isabel Olivas, 25, of Miami was the first female finisher in 2:14:28.
